  4. Here are the answers to the most frequently asked questions about OzTeX.

  6. Q. Is OzTeX freeware or shareware?
  7. A. Depends which version you are talking about.  All versions up to and
  8.    including 1.42 are freeware; versions 1.5 and later are shareware.

  13. Q. Can OzTeX run on a Mac Plus or Mac SE?
  14. A. Yes.  OzTeX is a "fat" application that runs in native mode on both
  15.    680x0 and PowerPC machines.  It also runs quite happily under System 6.

  17. Q. How can I improve readability when previewing DVI files?
  18. A. There are a number of things you can do:
  19.  
  20.    1. Turn on the dither option in the View DVI dialog.  While viewing a page
  21.    you can also press "d" to toggle dithering.  Requires System 7 or later.
  22.  
  23.    2. If you have TrueType versions of Times, Helvetica and Courier, then
  24.    try switching to the "View CM as PS" config file.  This is a quick and
  25.    dirty hack, so the kerning will look a bit strange and some characters
  26.    will appear incorrect (eg. you won't see the "ffi" ligature).

  28.    3. The best solution is to get the BaKoMa TrueType fonts from any CTAN site
  29.    in /tex-archive/fonts/cm/ps-type1/bakoma/mac/tt and select the config file
  30.    called "Add BaKoMa Fonts" before previewing.  The BaKoMa fonts include
  31.    PostScript and TrueType versions of most Computer Modern and AMS fonts.

  33.    Blue Sky Research have recently released their Computer Modern PostScript
  34.    fonts into the public domain.  They are available from CTAN sites in
  35.    /tex-archive/systems/mac/textures/fonts/Computer_Modern_PostScript/.
  36.    You'll need to install Adobe Type Manager to see nice-looking screen fonts.
  37.    See the "Add CM/PS Fonts" config file supplied with OzTeX.

  39.    A commercial alternative is the Lucida family of fonts from Y&Y.
  40.    Lucida does not look like Computer Modern (a blessing or a curse depending
  41.    on your religion), but it does include all the math fonts required by TeX.

  44. Q. How can I rotate a table or arbitrary piece of text?
  45. A. If you have a PostScript printer then it's quite simple.
  46.    LaTeX users can use the \rotatebox command defined in the graphics
  47.    package; see the examples in :TeX-inputs:Graphics:grfguide.tex.
  48.    Plain TeX users should study the examples in :DVIPS:Docs:rotsample.tex.

  50. Q. Why doesn't OzTeX include SliTeX?
  51. A. Because it is no longer supported.  To create slides, use the new "slides"
  52.    document class in LaTeX.
